PXE is intends as a beginners’ guide to navigating the complicated journey of diagnosis and recovery, through the application of Patient Experience Education. Teaching Patients not only what to expect, but also how to plan for and prepare for the journey to come. This is not just in technical terms, but also the psychological hurdles and day-to-day practices. We pursue this project because we believe it’s important, giving patients a helping hand in being able to understand their diagnosis and treatment personally, and thus feeling capable in tackling it head-on: allowing patients to take an active role in their treatment and even help doctors to better do their part.
This initial proposal is for a 5 part series, motion graphics driven animated program, 5 minutes per each instillation. This will serve as both a beginners’ guide to the Patient Experience Education ethos as well as a resource patients can continue to come back to. We do not intend to be the end-all be-all resource for patient education, far from it. Rather, we wish to instill a desire to learn more and participate in the treatment and recovery process, a sense of autonomy in combating their disease, and hope for the future.
This 5 part series focused particularly on patient experience education for Cancer patients going through radiation treatment: Diagnosis, Procedure, Follow-ups, Therapy, and of course remission. We wish to speak to experts and patients alike to find the best way to help those through this journey.
Updates as they manifest, for my part, I will be demonstrating the style and appeal of the series.
SUMMARY: What does it look like?
We are going for a pseudo-handdrawn aesthetic. I felt it appropriate to give it a style that might be appealing for any age.
Personally, I also thought a limited animation style would give me more time to focus on clarity and conveyance.
Equally, it was important that the presentation remain restrained yet creative. Our focus is education, but imagination helps.
I want art to inspire, educate, and enrich everyone. Teaching education with joy as the end goal, that’s the heart of this project.
I see this proposal, and even this project, as a starting point. Patient experience education is too expensive and vital to be summed up so succinctly. My hope is that when people see what we are setting out to accomplish, we’ll find those that wish to help us continue this project indefinitely. But, that’s getting ahead of myself. Right now, we are working on a the first steps. Wish us luck. -Hunter N Moore
